JazziQ Explained His New Sound ‘Dark Amapiano’. Tumelo Monyani, popularly called Mr JazziQ is well known South African Disc Jockey and music producer. He is one half of the popular South African music duo, JazziDisciples alongside fellow member, Josiah De Disciple. They were well known for releasing hit Amapiano songs including “Zlele”, “Long Lasting”, “The Goodguys” and more. The duo split in the year, 2020 to focus on their solo careers.
Describing the new sound as “Dark Amapiano”, Mr JazziQ explains what makes this type of amapiano unique is the chants found in the tracks. “If you listen to this EP or our BIB [Black is Brown] compilations you will find chants or for a lack of a better word, scary laughs, voices and sounds, which add on to an existing amapiano template. Listen to a song called Chantz of Moz in my latest EP, you can literally hear Byza make the chants whilst there are dogs in the background. The song sounds like something taken from a thriller movie,” he explains.
While music is how Mr JazziQ was introduced to the entertainment industry, over the past year he’s proven to have multiple talents by showcasing his presenting skills in his successful podcast channel named “JazziQ and Friends”.
Mr JazziQ has since become known as one of the country’s most consistent Amapiano DJs teaming up with several big names in the music industry including Kabza De Small, Major League DJz, Mpura, Lady Du, Reece Madlisa, Busta 929, and more. In Decemeber, 2020, his impact in the music industry earned him alongside several other colleagues, the title “Champion of December” by SA Hip Hop star, Riky Rick.
