Focalistic Reflects on Humble Beginnings, Passion and Purpose: “I Don’t Take This for Granted”

Amapiano sensation Focalistic, known for his breakout hit “Biri Marung,” is taking a moment to reflect on his journey from the streets of Ga-Rankuwa to the global music stage. In an intimate interview with Daily Sun, the 28-year-old artist — whose real name is Lethabo Sebetso — shared how deeply grateful he is for the life he now leads, and how he remains grounded in his roots and purpose.

“I’m one person who takes death seriously,” Focalistic said. “It kind of shows us how we don’t have time on this earth. So, from that point that God has given me air to breathe, I’m already getting up and ready to go.” For him, simply waking up each day is motivation enough to push forward.

His rise to fame has been fueled not only by his undeniable talent and work ethic but also by the support of fans and the memories of where he comes from. “Another thing is kids I’ve inspired. Being able to come from Ga-Rankuwa, seeing those streets and remembering who I really am and where this music has taken me. I don’t want to take it for granted,” he explained.

Despite achieving massive success, Focalistic maintains that he never anticipated this level of fame. “I wouldn’t have worked that hard. I always say if someone knew they’d be a billionaire in three years, they wouldn’t go hard,” he said. “It was always a passion, and luckily, God gave me a talent I’m super passionate about. So, it’s always about how I make this song better.”

For Focalistic, music is not just about fame or fortune — it’s a deeply personal expression. “It’s like a diary. It’s that personal, and if I don’t get this out, no one will,” he added, describing how his music allows him to tell his story authentically.

From humble beginnings in Ga-Rankuwa to being one of South Africa’s most celebrated music stars, Focalistic continues to lead with humility, purpose, and passion — and he’s just getting started.
