A video of three African/America men in towels dancing to Amapiano while crossing a street in Washington, in the United States went viral the previous weeks. The video made an impression in South Africa particularly seeing as Amapiano is a style of house music that emerged in South Africa in 2012, and now it is being listened to world wide. The initial tweet that went viral has been watched over 300 000 times and has over 20 000 likes as of 28 April.
A Nigerian/American dancer by the name of Uncle Azeez took to social media to share another trend of the ‘Woza Dance Challenge. JazziQ and Kabza De Small dropped hit single ‘Woza’ featuring Lady Du and Boohle. The song reached a wider audience as it even started dance challenges around it. Woza dance challenge is back at it and this time, it is Woza train challenge. “Spain đŞđ¸ and London đŹđ§ has the longest Woza Train so far. #wozatrainchallenge.”
This is not the first time South African dance challenges are reaching the international waves. Master KGâs Jerusalema hit went viral all over the world in 2020, and there was even a dance challenge created aqround it. The Jerusalema challenge was one of many things to shed a positive light on 2020. Since Master KG and Nomcebo Zikodeâs hit was released, various people from all over the world proceeded in taking part of the dance challenge â which is a âproudly South Africanâ product as stated by the president.
