DJ Maphorisa Shares His Feelings On The Idea Of DJ Clock Making Amapiano Music. Maphorisa, who’s long earned his belt for pumping out hits for almost a decade, from Uhuru’s “Y-tjukutja” and Mafikizolo’s “Khona” to his own “Oncamnce” featuring Stilo Magolide, Kwesta and Zingah. His studio has become a legendary haven for artists, both up-and-coming and established. He has now become one of the pioneers of the biggest genre(amapiano) in South Africa right now.

DJ Maphorisa took to social media undermining the idea of DJ Cloc making amapiano music. DJ Clock, real name Kholile Elvin Gumede, is a South African multi-award winning House and Dance music DJ and record producer. His first album The First Tick was released in 2008 and was nominated for a SAMA Award, as the Best Urban Dance Album and his single “Umahamba Yedwa” as Record of the Year.

MFR Souls duo replied to the Maphorisa on the comment section saying they are actually working on something with him. With Amapiano being the biggest sound at the moment, artists from other genres have been exploring the sound, releasing piano inspired music.

Maphorisa has been in the music industry for over 20 years now, but it was when amapiano became popular that he helped grow amapiano into what it is today, thus introducing it to a wider audience. Speaking on what motivated him to invest in amapiano, the star said: “With my gigs, I wanted to understand people’s reactions to this new sound because amapiano was underground. What really sparked my interest in the genre was that, at the time, I was looking to get into something that originated in South Africa. Amapiano is part of kwaito and dance music. When I started working with Afrobeats, which hails from Western Africa, I felt that we didn’t have a sound that strongly represented South Africa. When I started paying close attention to amapiano, I knew that this was a sound that would take South Africa to the world. There’s a lot that you can do with amapiano — you can make it soulful, funky, dusty and hard or jazz it up.”
