South African music sensation Tyla continues to demonstrate her global appeal, topping a ranking of local female artists with the most Spotify monthly listeners after reportedly reaching an impressive 24.7 million listeners on the streaming platform.

The ranking, shared by @hotspotculture_ on Instagram, has sparked conversations across social media about the growing international reach of South African women in music. With artists representing different sounds and corners of the industry, the list highlights the attention local talent continues to attract from audiences at home and abroad.

Tyla sits comfortably at the top of the ranking, recording 24.7 million monthly listeners and placing her well ahead of the other artists mentioned. Her position reflects the international audience she has built through her music and the growing visibility of South African artists on major global streaming platforms.

The singer has become one of the country’s most recognisable musical exports, reaching listeners far beyond South Africa through her distinctive sound and international releases. Her success has also helped bring greater attention to the country’s contemporary music scene, particularly among audiences discovering South African talent through streaming services.

MaWhoo also features prominently on the list, ranking third with 2.8 million monthly listeners. The singer and songwriter has continued to strengthen her presence in the Amapiano and Afro-pop spaces, attracting listeners through her collaborations and solo releases.

Her placement reflects the growing audience for South African dance music, with Amapiano continuing to connect with fans across different markets.

Meanwhile, Thatohatsi and Zee Nxumalo share fifth place, each recording 2.3 million monthly listeners. Both artists have been building their profiles in the South African music industry, with their inclusion highlighting the continued visibility of female performers within the local scene.

TxC also appears on the ranking with 2.2 million monthly listeners. The DJ duo has played a role in bringing Amapiano to wider audiences through their performances, mixes and musical collaborations.

The figures offer a snapshot of how these artists are performing on Spotify, although monthly listeners represent the number of unique listeners who play an artist’s music over a rolling 28-day period, rather than the total number of streams.

It is also worth noting that streaming figures can fluctuate as new releases, collaborations and listener activity change over time.
