Amapiano producer and DJ Kelvin Momo has opened up about being inspired by Canadian rapper Drake’s music catalogue and achievements, revealing that the experience has motivated him to return to the studio and focus on creating new music.

Known for his soulful approach to Amapiano, Kelvin Momo has built a strong identity in the South African music industry through his distinctive production style and collaborative projects. Now, the producer appears ready to enter another creative chapter, with Drake’s career serving as one of the inspirations behind his renewed musical drive.

Taking to social media, Kelvin Momo shared a message suggesting that his perspective on success has evolved beyond traditional industry recognition, particularly awards. Instead, he highlighted the importance of numbers and measurable achievements, hinting that he has bigger ambitions for his music.

“You guys don’t understand.. its not about AWARDS anymore.. the numbers have to make sense just wait and see..” he wrote.

The statement suggests that Kelvin Momo is looking at success from a broader perspective, with streaming figures, audience reach and the overall performance of his music becoming increasingly important considerations.

The producer also reflected on his journey as an independent solo artist working under his own label. He acknowledged the people he has collaborated with and expressed appreciation for those who have contributed to his career, while explaining his recent silence.

“I’ve been a solo artist ‘under my own label’. and Thank you to all the people I worked with and collaborated with,” he shared.

Kelvin Momo further admitted that his quiet period has been unusual for him, but asked fans to remain patient as he works towards what comes next.

“I’ve beeeeen quiet it’s unlike me but just give it time I am not someone who speaks a lot this is unlike me but give it time,” he added.

The producer also made it clear that the inspiration he received played a role in his decision to return to the studio. While he did not reveal specific details about upcoming releases, his comments have signalled a renewed focus on music and his future ambitions.

Drake’s extensive catalogue and achievements offer an example of how an artist can build a lasting presence through consistent releases, a recognisable sound and a strong connection with audiences worldwide. For Kelvin Momo, that example appears to have encouraged him to reassess his own goals and approach to his career.

As one of Amapiano’s recognised producers, his next move will be closely watched by listeners eager to hear what he has been working on.

For now, Kelvin Momo is asking fans to give him time, with his return to the studio suggesting that new music could be on the horizon. Whether his next release will reflect this renewed ambition remains to be seen, but the producer has made it clear that he is thinking beyond awards and looking towards bigger achievements.
