Amapiano star Young Stunna has finally revealed the inspiration behind the title of his sophomore album, Busisiwe, sharing an emotional tribute to his late great-grandmother, who played a significant role in shaping his life, music and creativity.
The singer released his highly anticipated second album on 21 October 2026, leaving fans curious about the meaning behind its title. Days after the release, Young Stunna took to Instagram to introduce the woman behind the name and explain why the project holds such a special place in his heart.
In his heartfelt post, the artist revealed that Busisiwe was named after his great-grandmother, whom the family affectionately called “Mama”. He explained that he was raised by his great-grandmother and grandmothers, allowing him to experience a deep sense of love, guidance and care throughout his childhood.
According to Young Stunna, Mama ensured that everyone in the household was taken care of, from the day they were born until they could establish themselves independently. She made sure nobody went to bed hungry and that every family member felt supported.
However, her influence extended far beyond providing for the family. Young Stunna credited his great-grandmother for believing in his musical dreams when others around him questioned his ambitions.
“She believed in my dreams so much, even when everyone else in the family was questioning them,” he wrote.
The singer recalled how Mama gave him money to travel to his performances and ensured he had enough to return home. Her unwavering support encouraged him to pursue music without feeling pressured to abandon his dreams.
Young Stunna also revealed that his love for fashion can be traced back to his childhood experiences with his great-grandmother. He recalled borrowing her shirts and pairing them with chinos, explaining that these early styling experiments helped shape his creative identity. He added that this influence was one of the reasons he had never felt the need to work with a stylist.
Music was another important part of Mama’s life. She participated in a choir that frequently came first, inspiring Young Stunna through its performances. She also held Sunday services at home, where the gospel songs made him feel reassured that everything would be alright.
Concluding his tribute, the singer dedicated the entire album to his late great-grandmother, expressing his love and hoping she was celebrating wherever she was.
“Mama, this album is yours,” he wrote.
Through Busisiwe, Young Stunna has transformed a deeply personal family story into a musical tribute, honouring the woman whose love, faith and encouragement helped shape the artist he is today.
