South African Amapiano DJ and producer Musa Msaro has died, leaving the music community mourning the loss of one of the genre’s respected curators. Msaro passed away in the early hours of October 3, 2026, with friends, colleagues and fellow music lovers beginning to pay tribute to his life and contribution to the scene.
Msaro was known for his deep understanding of music and his ability to curate sounds that connected with listeners. Beyond being a DJ and producer, he developed a reputation as a passionate music selector who consistently placed quality and musicality at the centre of his work.
One of his most notable contributions was the Musical Exclusiv mixtape series, also known as AmaNomNom. The series became an important part of his catalogue, with 39 episodes showcasing his approach to music curation.
At a time when mixtapes and DJ sets were becoming increasingly common across the South African music landscape, Msaro distinguished himself through his careful selection of songs and refined understanding of sound. His AmaNomNom series offered listeners a carefully assembled collection of Amapiano melodies and helped introduce audiences to music beyond the obvious mainstream selections.
His work resonated with listeners who valued DJs not simply for their popularity, but for their ability to tell stories through music. Each instalment of the series reflected Msaro’s ear for quality and his passion for bringing different sounds together.
His passing has therefore created a significant void for those who knew and followed his work. Friends and colleagues have already begun sharing tributes, remembering him not only as a talented DJ and producer but also as someone who played an important role in shaping the listening experience around Amapiano.
Tragically, Msaro’s final scheduled appearance was supposed to take place at the Deep House Vs Piano All White Vs All Black event on October 3, 2026. The event was set to feature him among its performers, but he could not make it following his passing earlier that day.
The timing of the news has made his death even more difficult for those within the music community, as an event where he was expected to share his passion for music became a moment of mourning instead.
As tributes continue to pour in, Msaro’s musical legacy will live on through the sounds he curated, the productions he created and the Musical Exclusiv series that introduced his musical vision to a broad audience.
His contribution to Amapiano will not be forgotten.
