DJ Maphorisa has revealed just how far he was willing to go to get Samthing Soweto on stage at the upcoming Scorpion Kings Live show, saying he and Kabza De Small were prepared to pay the singer R500,000 to perform at FNB Stadium.
The revelation came during Maphorisa’s appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG, which premiered on Thursday, 17 September 2026. The episode, which covered several major topics surrounding the producer’s career, also revisited his long-running history with Samthing Soweto.
During the conversation, Maphorisa was asked about Samthing Soweto and the possibility of having him perform at the Scorpion Kings’ massive FNB Stadium show on 19 September.
Maphorisa confirmed that he was prepared to spend half a million rand to make the appearance happen.
“I’m going to lose 500,000. I’ll buy for… For this ticket?”
He later explained that Samthing Soweto had blocked him, making communication difficult. Maphorisa added that he and Kabza De Small, whom he referred to as “Papta”, had already decided they could offer the singer R500,000 to perform.
“Samthing Soweto, it’s just that he blocked me. But me and Papta had decided that we can even give him R500 000 to perform,” Maphorisa said.
The comments have once again brought attention to the complicated history between the artists. Maphorisa and Samthing Soweto were previously connected through some of Amapiano’s notable collaborations, before their relationship became strained amid public disagreements around music credits and business matters.
Their history has remained a talking point among Amapiano fans, particularly because of the music they created together during the genre’s formative years. The latest comments from Maphorisa have therefore added another chapter to an already closely followed story.
The Scorpion Kings Live show is set to take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 19 September, with Maphorisa and Kabza De Small headlining a major celebration of South African music. The event features a wide-ranging lineup of artists from Amapiano and other genres.
While Samthing Soweto will not be part of the announced lineup, Maphorisa’s revelation shows that an attempt was reportedly made to bring the vocalist into the FNB Stadium spectacle.
For now, the R500,000 revelation has given fans another talking point ahead of one of the biggest Amapiano events on the South African entertainment calendar
