DJ Njelic Reveals Why He’s Not Nominated For Any SAMAs. It was announced early this year that Amapiano, Kwaito and Gqom would for the first time compete as standalone categories at the South African Music Awards (Samas) after years of being consolidated. The new categories were introduced for the 27th annual installment of SA’s longest-running and prestigious music awards, while the nominees were also announced on Wednesday night, 19 May 2021.
Amapiano being the current biggest sound, it was to no surprise when amapiano artists were dominating the categories. Soweto’s fastest rising Amapiano DJ and Producer Njelic revealed that he was not nominated for any SAMAs because of poor management that didn’t submit his songs together with his team’s. However, he still honoured those that made it to the nominations. “poor management didn’t submit our songs for the SAMAS but we soldier on and honour those who made it through to the nominations “and remember when one piano dj/artist wins we all won” -Njelic forever Ace Of Spades,” Njelic wrote.
Njelic has been hitting up the industry for long now and has earned the belt as one of the pioneers of amapiano. He recently worked with De Mthuda and Ntokzin on their latest EP offering titld ‘Aces Of Spades’ which has one of the biggest amapiano songs of 2021 titled ‘John Wick’.
Cementing the fact that amapiano has taken over the SA music industry, producer and DJ Kabza De Small scored a whopping six nominations. RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said: “We are delighted with the calibre of nominees for SAMA27. This is a reflection of the music industry and the movers and shakers who made an affect in 2020/21, a very difficult period in which the industry had to deal with a crippling global pandemic. It was through music that life became bearable and for that we thank our artists who continue to redefine, reinvent and re-imagine their business.”
