“COVID-19 Was A Blessing To My Voice” – Samthing Soweto. Arts and culture have experienced a significant economic setback and fallout from COVID-19. Across the spectrum of artistic and creative endeavours, restrictions on gatherings for live performances, and severe unemployment have taken a devastating toll on the sector. The arts sector has been hard hit by the pandemic, with many entertainment venues forced to close under Covid-19 regulations.

The arts are integral to the social, civic, and economic wellbeing and vitality of our nation. While the country was once put on a strict lockdown, some people took the time to gather themselves and think of ways to make the best out of the situation. Samthing Soweto says the COVID-19 was a blessing in disguise. “Covid-19 was a curse to business, the economy and musicians, but it was a blessing to me. I used to sing and perform like everyday especially during December days, but when we were in lockdown, I had a me time, I was able to ew-assess my self, set new goals and chill. Singing everyday had a toll on me and my voice, but now that it’s lockdown restrictions have been eased, my voice sounds much better because I took a me time. My voice was scorched but now it’s good,” he said.

To keep busy during the pandemic, Samthing Soweto teamed up with record producer De Mthuda to create yet another irreplaceable banger hit track which have being making serious waves in the amapiano scene titled ‘weekend’. Speaking on the track, Samthing Soweto said, “the song Weekend, I did it with De Mthuda. The song is about self-love. Its like when someone is singing to their partner that one day I’ll clean, take you out and things like that but weekend, I am going to party and relax for myself. Basically it’s about self love,” he added.
