Heavy K: “The Blueprint And Benchmarks By Most Boys, Including Amapiano Comes From Our Sound”. House DJ Heavy-K Drumboss, real name Mkhululi Siqula who has been hitting the music industry with smash hits for a while now has opened up about the amapiano hype.

The star released an amapiano track last year December and has revealed that his sound inspired the amapiano sound. “I’m gonna tell you one thing about Heavy K. I started…I feel like the blueprint and benchmark of most of the boys today comes from our sound. Whether its piano or whatever, there are some elements and a way of arrangement that you can’t literally deny it. Inspiring other people is not about wanting credit or anything like that,” Heay K said.

“I remember when I was in PE, I met Kabza De small and he told me straight that ‘on tender love siku landile’. In a way, my sound gave direction to a certain direction. If you remember there was a Hip Hop wave, it came and passed- Heavy had a hit. Gqom came and passed – Heavy had a hit. Last year it was amapiano time and Heavy had a hit. Overall, I like amapiano because the jams just changed the game. I think the game was comfortable, so when amapiano came they came with a different thing and hit in a way that we didn’t expect. I love amapiano, I do like gqom too but I could only select like ten songs that I like, but with amapiano I can select couple of songs because there’s music, the chords, the vocals; especially stuff so Phori and De Mthuda,” he added.

Addressing MacG on why he is not appearing on line-ups recently, Heavy K said: “You must understand that when its other people time, I don’t care how talented you are, you can never stop another man’s time. These guys, its their time and there is nothing you can do about it. With me, I know South Africa. South Africa can make you the biggest star, they can take you up there now and put you down now like you never existed.”

“I know what hype bubble is, it is dangerous, you feel like you are there and that guy, for me it was about the hype so now I am relaxed because I surpassed that long time ago. But for you to see that you are really in this game, is when people forget about you a bit, and then come back with another hit or album again, then people remember you and who you are; then you create your own hype. There is a hype that people create for you when you are new and people are excited. You haven’t been seeing me on line-ups in South Africa because I am getting paid in dollars,” he concuded.
