Kelvin Momo, one of South Africa’s most celebrated Amapiano producers and DJs, has found himself at the center of heated debate among fans after failing to show up for his scheduled performance at Sun City Resorts this past weekend. With his next big gig lined up at the Joburg 94.7 Day, fans are now questioning whether he can be trusted to deliver.

On social media, disappointment quickly turned into skepticism as attendees who were left stranded at Sun City voiced frustration. Many are doubtful about whether the “Private School Amapiano” hitmaker will show up in Johannesburg, with some even calling for his immediate replacement.

“Aaah are you guys still believing in Kelvin Namanje. Maybe you should check at Oscar Mbo for a replacement,” one frustrated fan commented, capturing the mood of many. Another, Hlengiwe Thusi, was blunt: “Find Kelvin’s replacement right now!”

Others stressed the need for stricter event management, urging organizers to keep closer tabs on Momo’s movements. Mbasa Volwana remarked, “Hopefully Kelvin Momo arrives to this gig. Y’all should start communicating with his management from now, and daily control.”

The tone wasn’t any lighter from Taelo Mashego, who accused Momo of being “unreliable and unprofessional,” adding: “Please find replacement for Calvin Momo now. Ask Sun City Resort, they know him better.”

Concerns about professionalism among top-tier local acts also surfaced. Mthobeli Lida Phele weighed in with frustration: “Any other reliable artists you can bring us? These South African artists, few thousands and they start diva tendencies …”

Other fans were more cynical, with Lemogang Teme suggesting organizers should book Momo at a hotel right next to the venue and even “guard him,” before concluding: “Kelvin won’t come to the show …”

The situation has left some wondering about refunds should Momo repeat his Sun City disappearance. Musa Zondiasked plainly: “Will we get refunds if Momo doesn’t show up?”

Still, not all voices were negative. A handful of supporters defended Momo, accusing critics of overreacting. Ntanazo Nanto Mizzou wrote: “People are bitter. Because Momo didn’t pitch in your event you wanna cancel him. Get out of here haters.”

Meanwhile, jokes about Momo’s reliability also made the rounds, with one user quipping: “Let’s hope Barcelona is not playing on the day.”

A Question of Trust

While Kelvin Momo remains a fan favorite in the Amapiano scene, his recent no-show has raised serious concerns about professionalism and respect for supporters. With the Joburg 94.7 Day drawing near, all eyes will be on Momo’s camp to see whether he will silence the doubters or add fuel to growing frustration.

For now, fans remain divided — hopeful that he’ll redeem himself, but bracing for disappointment just in case.
