Fast-rising music artists Jazzworx and GL Ceejay, known for their chart-topping hits and contributions to the Amapiano and Afro-pop scenes, were victims of a terrifying robbery and kidnapping ordeal this past weekend. The artists were abducted from their home in Johannesburg, and their entire music studio was stripped by the assailants.
The alarming incident came to light after fellow artist Thukuthela took to social media in the early hours of the morning. Posting at 01:30 AM, Thukuthela shared, “I had to learn about the kidnapping of my two brothers @_jazzworx and @gl_ceejay. They were kidnapped, and the people who took them made it clear they were after the studio and what was in the computer.”
The abductors not only took the artists but also cleared out the entire studio setup — including valuable sound equipment, computers, and music data. Thukuthela also posted a heartbreaking image of their empty studio, with the caption: “They took everything we worked for. Wow… but thank God the bro’s are alive.”
Fortunately, the harrowing incident ended with the two musicians being found alive. In an update posted later in the day, Thukuthela shared, “Good morning everyone, thanks for your support & prayers. The gents were found in an abandoned house in Katlehong. They’ve sustained minor injuries on their heads, but have been taken to the hospital.”
While fans and fellow artists celebrate their survival, the incident has sent shockwaves throughout the South African music community. Many are calling for better protection for artists and more awareness about the increasing risks faced by creatives, especially those operating from home studios.
The motive behind the kidnapping appears to be tied to the artists’ work. The thieves reportedly had detailed knowledge of the equipment and files they were targeting, sparking speculation that the incident may have involved someone familiar with the duo’s operations.
Police are reportedly investigating the matter, and the artists’ supporters continue to flood social media with messages of solidarity and calls for justice.
As Jazzworx and GL Ceejay recover from their traumatic experience, their story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that even celebrated public figures can face behind closed doors.
