South African Amapiano star Young Stunna has opened up about the darker side of the music industry, breaking his silence on long-standing frustrations that have haunted some of his biggest career milestones.
In a deeply personal social media post, the artist—real name Sandile Fortune Msimango—revealed he never received platinum plaques for two of his most successful hits, “Baxolele” and “Dlala Captain.” While confirming that he continues to earn royalties from the songs, Stunna expressed deep disappointment at the lack of formal recognition and ongoing issues with his former label, Simnandi Records.
“Those songs are so important to me, but I kept quiet and kept pushing,” he wrote. “I’ve always known my worth, but the industry taught me painful lessons—like how speaking up sometimes means getting shut down.”
Stunna’s heartfelt confession struck a chord with fans and fellow artists alike. He shared how, in the past, every attempt to voice concerns was met with dismissal, as many urged him to simply be “grateful.” The silence, he explained, was a coping mechanism to protect his mental health.
Now in a better emotional and mental space, Young Stunna says he has made peace with the situation. Though he never received an apology, he’s chosen forgiveness over resentment.
“Silence is the best revenge,” he wrote. “I’ve learned to rely on my love for music to keep me grounded.”
In a show of solidarity, the singer offered encouragement to up-and-coming musicians navigating similar struggles. “Keep making music, take the small gigs, and rebrand if you have to. Don’t stop because you’re hurt—move forward anyway.”
He also confronted the harsh criticism and personal attacks he’s faced over the years, including derogatory slurs about his appearance and sexuality. “I’ve been called ‘Gay,’ ‘Down syndrome boy,’ and worse… but I pray every day for strength. I’ll never give up.”
Young Stunna closed by clarifying that his post wasn’t meant to start drama, but to highlight the need for justice and respect for all artists.
From a church choir in Daveyton to dominating charts across the continent, Young Stunna remains one of Amapiano’s most courageous voices—unafraid to speak the truth, no matter how heavy it may be.
