Grammy-winning South African superstar Tyla has opened up about the creative journey behind one of her most exciting collaborations to date — “Dynamite” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats icon Wizkid. The song is one of the standout tracks from her new EP, We Wanna Party, which was officially released on Friday, 25 July 2025.
In a recent interview on Capital XTRA Breakfast with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie, Tyla shared insights into how Dynamite came to life — and how it took three years before fans finally got to hear it. Speaking candidly, she revealed that she originally recorded the demo for the track back in 2022.
“With ‘Dynamite’ I made it in 2022, and then ‘Mr. Media’, I made in London with the usual crew,” Tyla said during the interview. “It’s a banger. You know with bangers I don’t really like explaining them — it says what it means. I feel like I needed to let out that one.”
The most heartfelt part of the story came when Tyla described how humbled she was that Wizkid, one of Africa’s biggest music exports, agreed to collaborate with her — especially at a time when she was still relatively unknown.
“It was very exciting because at the time I was very new. A lot of people didn’t know me,” she explained. “So I didn’t expect [Wizkid] to be down for a session. But he was — and he liked some of the stuff I played him. We literally made ‘Dynamite’ together. And I was sitting on that demo for three years, just playing it, dancing in my room, praying to God that one day the song would come out. And now it’s here.”
Tyla’s collaboration with Wizkid has been praised for its infectious rhythm, rich vocal layering, and global appeal — blending the best of Amapiano and Afrobeats in one powerful track. Fans have already hailed Dynamite as one of the top songs on the project, alongside other new releases like Mr. Media.
This track not only highlights Tyla’s evolution as an artist but also marks another milestone in her journey of taking South African music to the world stage.
