After nearly three years of unanswered questions and public speculation, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has finally made a major breakthrough in the 2022 murder case of DJ Sumbody. A prominent Gauteng businessman, Katiso “KT” Molefe, was arrested on Monday, 21 July 2025, at his luxury home in Sandton in connection with the killing of the popular producer and entrepreneur.
The arrest comes after months of investigation that linked Molefe to multiple violent crimes, including the assassination of DJ Sumbody, born Oupa John Sefoka, who was fatally gunned down in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022. His sudden death shocked the entertainment world and left a void in the Amapiano scene, where DJ Sumbody was a pioneer and major influencer.
According to police sources, Molefe is also currently out on bail for an unrelated assassination case, involving the 2023 murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart. He and three alleged hitmen — Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana, and Tiego Floyd Mabusela — are expected to stand trial for the gruesome killing, adding more weight to the ongoing investigation.
The three suspected hitmen are reportedly also implicated in the attempted assassination of actress and socialite Tebogo Thobejane, which was allegedly orchestrated by her former partner, Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala. This emerging web of violent crimes points to deep connections between business, crime, and entertainment in Gauteng’s high society.
While the exact motive behind DJ Sumbody’s murder remains unclear, investigators are probing into possible links to his business dealings and suspected underworld associations. Some reports suggest his death may have been part of a larger assassination network that spans multiple provinces and targets high-profile figures.
Entertainment and news outlets such as MDN News, IOL, and News24 confirmed the arrest, with senior police officials acknowledging the importance of this new development. Molefe’s arrest has reignited public interest and raised hopes that justice may finally be served for DJ Sumbody’s grieving family, friends, and fans.
As the case continues to unfold, South Africans are watching closely, hoping for more answers and accountability in one of the country’s most high-profile celebrity murder cases.
