DJ Maphorisa has once again proven he’s not just a producer but a master of reinvention. As Mlindo The Vocalist prepares to release his highly anticipated album Uhambo this Friday, fans have been buzzing over one striking detail: DJ Maphorisa features three times on the album — under three different names.
Appearing as DJ Maphorisa, Lawd Porry, and Madumane, the multi-talented hitmaker has brought his alter egos to life across the 16-track project. Each alias carries its own musical signature: DJ Maphorisa the renowned producer and DJ, Lawd Porry the refined curator and A&R-style figure, and Madumane, the flashy rapper and vocalist with the unmistakable vocal flair.
Social media has erupted with reactions, especially on X (formerly Twitter), where fans dubbed it the “Phori multiverse.” Tweets ranged from admiration to playful critique, with many applauding the business savvy behind the move.
“DJ Maphorisa, LawdPorry, Madumane… each name has its royalties? No one is smarter than Phori,” one user commented.
Another added, “It’s one person in different forms – like water, steam and ice!”
Some joked it was “borderline greedy,” while others hailed it as pure brilliance, calling the move a marketing masterstroke and proof of DJ Maphorisa’s deep creative influence in the South African music scene.
The triple feature highlights just how embedded DJ Maphorisa is in the DNA of Uhambo. His long-standing partnership with Mlindo The Vocalist is well-documented, and this latest album continues to showcase the chemistry between the two artists.
Whether it’s producing a banger, jumping on a verse as Madumane, or curating the sonic direction as Lawd Porry, DJ Maphorisa has blurred the lines between identity and artistry — and sparked real conversations around branding, royalties, and reinvention in the industry.
With Uhambo set to drop this Friday, anticipation is sky-high, and fans can’t wait to hear how each version of Phori adds a unique flavor to the project. One thing’s for sure — when it comes to staying relevant and dominating the game, DJ Maphorisa is playing chess while the rest are still learning checkers.
