South African music powerhouse DJ Maphorisa recently opened up about the deeper impact of Amapiano, the genre that has taken the world by storm. Known as one half of the legendary Scorpion Kings, Maphorisa revealed that Amapiano is far more than just a dance genre—it’s a movement that’s inspiring young people across South Africa and beyond.

In a candid interview on Kaya 959, the hitmaker, affectionately known as Madumoney, reflected on the spiritual depth and cultural power embedded in many Amapiano tracks. Maphorisa highlighted how this uniquely South African genre has become a source of motivation and identity, especially for the youth.

“Yes, I strongly believe that Amapiano is contributing to waking the youth up, and I think that it is through the songs,” he said. “The music that is now produced is very spiritual and touching. The songs have a strong message, and some of the lyrics are taken from old gospel hymns.”

Maphorisa went on to note how Amapiano is no longer just music for the streets or clubs—it has become a cross-generational force, uniting young people, parents, and even grandparents through shared rhythms and stories.

“Now even our mothers and grandmothers are actually vibing to Amapiano,” he added. “So yes, I strongly believe that Amapiano shifted and reshaped society.”

With its infectious beats and emotive lyrics, Amapiano continues to evolve, blending messages of hope, love, and spirituality. Maphorisa, who has played a pivotal role in the genre’s global rise, emphasized how many songs are grounded in real experiences, often touching on issues of love, struggle, and faith—making them relatable to people from all walks of life.

His comments come as Amapiano continues to enjoy widespread success both locally and internationally, with artists like Kabza De Small, Focalistic, Uncle Waffles, and Tyler ICU carrying the sound to global stages.

Maphorisa’s words are a reminder that music, especially Amapiano, is more than entertainment—it’s a powerful tool for cultural connection, personal healing, and social awakening.

As the genre continues to rise, so does its influence—and according to Maphorisa, it’s just getting started.
