Scotts Maphuma Breaks Silence on Mozambique Arrest

South African Amapiano vocalist Scotts Maphuma has finally spoken out after making headlines for being arrested in Mozambique over the weekend. The “Uyaphapha Marn” hitmaker found himself behind bars in Maputo after missing a scheduled performance at a children’s concert — an incident that sparked widespread speculation and backlash across social media.

On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, news outlet PSAFLIVE shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing a visibly frustrated Scotts Maphuma being confronted by a journalist asking for a comment on the incident. According to PSAFLIVE, the musician was arrested after being a no-show at a high-profile kids’ event, leading to disappointment and outrage among event organisers and attendees.

The viral clip shows Maphuma being approached by a reporter asking why he failed to perform. Remaining calm but visibly irritated, Scotts initially refused to elaborate, instead urging the media to refer to an upcoming press conference where he promised to clarify the situation. At one point, he accused the journalist of harassment, saying, “You’re harassing me now.”

Eventually, Maphuma gave a brief explanation, stating that his decision not to perform was due to poor treatment by the event organisers. “They should have treated me well, my friend,” he said, suggesting that behind-the-scenes issues contributed to the breakdown of the performance agreement.

While details remain murky, the statement suggests that miscommunication or mistreatment behind the scenes may have caused the no-show — a situation that escalated to legal consequences. It is still unclear whether there were contractual violations involved or if efforts were made to resolve the issue before law enforcement was brought in.

This incident comes at a difficult time in Scotts Maphuma’s career, as he continues to face criticism and backlash in the South African entertainment scene. Some fans have expressed concern over his public image, with others calling for accountability.

Whether or not this latest controversy will further derail his already embattled career remains to be seen. However, Maphuma appears determined to clear his name, and his upcoming press conference may offer the full story behind what went wrong in Mozambique.
