Musa Keys, celebrated for his unique fusion of Amapiano beats and soulful melodies, has once again proven why he’s one of South Africa’s brightest stars. With the release of his latest album, Rirandzu, Musa takes listeners on a deeply personal journey, blending his XiTsonga heritage with heartfelt explorations of love and identity.

Speaking with Drum Magazine at Soltopia in Mea Culpa this past weekend, Musa shared insights into the inspiration behind the album and his aspirations for the future.

“Rirandzu means love,” he explained, radiating pride and passion for the project. “The inspiration was tapping into my culture and telling my story… even though falling in love is tricky right now,” he added with a laugh.

The album stands out not only for its rich themes but also for Musa’s decision to craft much of it in XiTsonga. This creative choice showcases his dedication to innovation and cultural representation. “It’s something different. We don’t have an album as good as this,” he confidently stated, hinting at even more Tsonga music in the future.

Fans have responded enthusiastically to Rirandzu, with the track Vafana va Mali quickly emerging as a favorite. Musa believes the song perfectly captures the album’s infectious appeal, saying, “I think people are liking it, especially Vafana va Mali.”

While Rirandzu celebrates love in all its forms, Musa admits that navigating romance in today’s world has its challenges. As a self-proclaimed “lover boy,” his personal experiences add depth and authenticity to the album’s themes, making it resonate even more with his audience.

Reflecting on his incredible year, Musa describes 2024 as a series of highlights. “I get inspired every day. I stay motivated every day,” he shared, showcasing his relentless drive and optimism for the future.

With Rirandzu, Musa Keys has not only delivered a standout album but also reaffirmed his status as a trailblazer in the South African music scene.
