Zee Nxumalo, one of South Africa’s rising stars in the music industry, has been officially unveiled as a brand ambassador for PUMA, alongside fellow artist Young Stunna. Known for her soulful voice and magnetic stage presence, Zee brings her unique energy to PUMA’s Speedcat campaign, which celebrates the sneaker’s 25th anniversary and its rich motorsport heritage.
Reflecting on her journey with PUMA, Zee described the partnership as a “dream come true.” She recalled walking past PUMA stores in Braamfontein during her university days, aspiring to one day own a pair of the iconic sneakers. “PUMA has always been that aspirational brand for me. When I lived in Braam, I’d walk past their store and see people carrying those iconic PUMA shoe boxes. I couldn’t afford even the smallest item back then, but I always told myself, “One day, I’m coming back for those boxes.” To now be an official ambassador – it’s a full-circle moment that means everything to me.,” she shared.
The Speedcat campaign captures the essence of adventure, with Zee embarking on a road trip under the Jozi sun, exuding effortless elegance in the sleek Black Speedcat sneakers paired with a silver racing jacket. “It all started with a simple gesture. Hayden (Manuel, PUMA SA Sportstyle Marketing Manager) spotted me on social media and sent me a pair of sneakers. That was it—a small start, but I could see the bigger picture. I’ve always been someone who believes in manifesting dreams, and this was no exception.,” Zee said.
Speaking on sneakers inspired by motorsport, she said, “I wouldn’t call myself a motorsport fan, but I have a serious love for fast cars. There’s something about the thrill and elegance of speed that excites me. And let me tell you, owning a Mercedes Benz is definitely on my vision board!”
In an exclusive interview, Zee opened up about her music career and the role social media played in her rise to fame. From singing at family gatherings as a child to performing on international stages, Zee’s journey has been marked by resilience and gratitude. “Honestly, social media opened all the doors for me. I remember being invited to tour the UK, and I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking, “Why me? How did they even find my music?” But when I stepped on that stage and heard the crowd singing every word to my songs, I knew it was real. Social media has this amazing power to connect artists with fans across the world, even without big campaigns.,” she explained.
When asked about the highlights of her musical career, Zee spoke fondly of the moments when audiences sing her songs back to her. “It’s indescribable. Hearing the crowd sing along is like they’re performing with me—it’s pure magic. It reminds me why I do this, and every time it happens, it feels like the first time. I’ll never take that for granted,” she said.
Zee also reflected on her admiration for Brenda Fassie, a legendary South African artist whose legacy she honored by being a guest vocalist on a song sampling Weekend Special. “Brenda Fassie is a legend. Her music, her energy, and her fearlessness paved the way for so many of us. Being part of a song that honours her legacy was a huge honour for me. It’s impossible not to feel inspired by her. She was and still is a force.” Zee noted.
With her album recently released and her role as a PUMA ambassador taking center stage, Zee Nxumalo is poised to make 2024 her biggest year yet. “To my fans, thank you for riding this journey with me. This album is so personal, and every track was created with love and intention. I hope it speaks to you, makes you feel something, and becomes part of the soundtrack to your life. Keep streaming, sharing, and vibing—it means the world to me!”
Fans can expect more music, more milestones, and more iconic moments as she continues to soar.
