Renowned Amapiano singer Babalwa Mavuso, popularly known as Babalwa M, is grappling with fear and anxiety after her home was broken into while she slept. The incident, which occurred on October 20 at her Muldersdrift residence in Johannesburg, left her without valuables worth R141,000, including a Sony flat-screen TV, a MacBook computer, and an iPhone.
According to reports, Babalwa was asleep when she heard footsteps near her swimming pool. Initially dismissing the noise as her music producer Samuel Seloane, known as Stixx, she resumed sleeping. However, upon waking later, she discovered her home had been breached and her gadgets stolen.
“The doors and security gates were locked,” said a police officer involved in the investigation. “Babalwa woke up after hearing noises and checked for anyone outside but didn’t see anything suspicious. It was only when she inspected her dining room that she noticed the theft.”
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that a case of housebreaking is being investigated. “The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet,” Nevhuhulwi stated.
The burglary has deeply shaken Babalwa, who now fears for her safety. The singer’s harrowing experience shows the rising issue of home invasions in Johannesburg, where even gated properties and locked doors are not always sufficient deterrents.
Babalwa M, who rose to fame with her 2020 EP Bayeke, has since solidified her place in the Amapiano scene with chart-topping hits. Known for her collaborations with prominent producer and ex-boyfriend Kelvin Momo, she has captivated audiences with her soothing voice and signature style.
As investigations continue, the singer has refrained from making public statements. We hope this setback will not dampen her creative spirit as she continues to enchant audiences with her music.
