DJ Maphorisa has reignited tensions with Samthing Soweto over the controversial release of the song “Amalanga Awafani,” which has sparked a heated debate in the South African music industry. The Amapiano producer took to social media to express his frustration, accusing Samthing Soweto of being confused about the workings of the music business. This public spat has intensified after Samthing Soweto’s name was omitted from the credits of the song, despite his vocals being featured.

The controversy began when Mas Musiq and Lawd Weezy released “Amalanga Awafani,” featuring TO Starquality and DJ Maphorisa. The track quickly gained attention, but fans were shocked to find that Samthing Soweto, who was present during the song’s recording and contributed vocals, was not credited. This omission led to widespread criticism, with many fans and industry insiders siding with Samthing Soweto.

In response, DJ Maphorisa took to Instagram Live to address the situation, claiming that the song was already completed when Samthing Soweto asked to be included. Maphorisa further alleged that Samthing Soweto had been given full ownership of the masters for his own album, which was recorded at Maphorisa’s house, yet he was now demanding a share of the masters for “Amalanga Awafani.”

“This guy is confused, shame, I give up,” Maphorisa said during his live session. “Try to understand me neh, he recorded the whole album in my house, we gave him the master 100%, and he still wants to own master percentage on our songs? Who is a Bari here? I’m not sure if you guys understand what is the issue here. Let’s pray for him, I think he has a serious problem.”

The ongoing dispute has drawn a mixed response from fans and the broader music community. While some understand Maphorisa’s stance on the business side of music, others are concerned about the treatment of artists like Samthing Soweto, who they feel are being unfairly excluded from the recognition they deserve.

As the drama continues to unfold, it highlights the often complicated nature of music production, ownership, and crediting, particularly in a genre as rapidly growing as Amapiano. Whether this feud will lead to a resolution or further deepen the divide between the two artists remains to be seen. For now, it serves as a reminder of the complexities that underlie the music industry and the importance of clear communication and fair practices among collaborators.
