DBN Gogo Gets Real On Her Djying Career. Mandisa Radebe popularly known as DBN Gogo has taken the DJing scene by storm since her introduction to the game. The star has played at events such as Ultra, Oppikoppi, Homecoming Africa, and to actually releasing her own tracks featuring some f the industry biggest stars.

She said she saw the gap in the groove scene during her Varsity days when she was residing in Pretoria, and that’s how she began to build her fame name in the industry. DBN Gogo said DJying became a career worth pursuing when she realised that her mother was starting to understand what she does and that she gets paid for it. “I think it only kicked in this year when I realized my mom was starting to understand. That’s when I was like ‘okay, it might be a real thing’. When she’s just like ‘oh, so you have money mos’ and I was like ‘yeah, I actually do. I don’t actually need to ask you for stuff’. Like I actually work now as much as it’s weird, I actually work. So that’s when I realized that’s it’s a real thing,” she said.

The star also opened up about some of the obstacles she face, more especially as a DJ. “I don’t think that there’s a day that goes down without a fight. There are so many things. People want so much from you all the time & that itself is a real obstacle I’m struggling to adjust to. But it’s just the usual like people doubting that you can play,” she said.

Speaking on the regrets of pursuing a career as a DJ, DBN Gogo said her regrets are not being able to do regular things on weekends considering that she gets booked for gigs on weekends. ” I miss sleeping. I miss being able to do regular things on weekends or just like not do anything at all on the weekends. But the show must go on,” she said. “I’m still struggling balancing my career and family and friends because people in my life are busy during the week & I’m busy on the weekends. Sometimes I’m busy during the week also. But you make time. Luckily a lot of my friends also enjoy coming to my gigs so I can see them there. You make time & that’s one thing I’ve been trying to do a lot more lately, is to make time to do other stuff & not taking gigs unnecessarily. I don’t need to be everywhere,” she added.
