Tyla Reveals The Artists She Has Featured In Her Forthcoming Project. South Africa’s music history is inextricably linked to its political landscape–even if it’s made in defiance of it or to escape it. From the artists who drew attention to the wrongs that were taking place within the system of enforced separation that was apartheid to the young up-and-coming bedroom wizards making music just to share among their friends, the range of music coming out of the country has made it the vibrant pot of influences and genres it is today.
Tyla’s emotionally rich music began when she was just 12, penning songs in her diary, which led to writing and singing more seriously as a high schooler. The South African act got her big break in 2019 when her debut song, ‘Getting Late’ with producer Kooldrink went viral, with people raving and dancing to the amapiano song infused with RnB.
She’s focused on the year ahead, performing and crafting her debut studio album, with the same intention from when she began. “So I’ve been recording a lot. I have over 80 songs, so many and I just came to a point where I really want to release a body of work and not even an album. I want to start with an EP, just a few songs, so people can get to know me as an artist, as Tyla, and just see where I’m coming from. There wasn’t a specific concept or anything. I just wanted to make music that I love and work with people that I love working with. I work with a lot of African artists and producers. I’m just really excited to share that now with the world.”
Tyla revealed that her forthcoming proect features well known artists who are doing well. “Well the artists that I’m working with now are doing very well, they are obviously emerging, but they are big artists like Ayra Starr and Lojay, and I’m working with P. Priime, an amazing crazy Nigerian producer. Starr is also an amazing Nigerian producer. I’m just happy that I’m able to share my project with them and have them join me on my first project, because I’m a fan of them, and we are friends. So it’s just a very exciting thing for me” she added.
