The Amapiano music scene continues to evolve and captivate audiences around the world, with its infectious beats and unique sound. One of the rising stars of the genre, Khanyisa, recently opened up about her hit song ‘Jikeleza’ and how its Amapiano success took her by surprise. In a conversation with JazziQ about her latest single ‘Suka’ featuring Tyler ICU, Nandipha 808, and Ceeka RSA, Khanyisa revealed that ‘Jikeleza’ was initially not intended to be an Amapiano track.
Khanyisa’s ‘Jikeleza’ featuring renowned Amapiano artists Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa became an instant hit, winning the hearts of fans and topping music charts. However, the song’s journey to Amapiano stardom was not what Khanyisa had originally envisioned. In her conversation with JazziQ, she shared the unexpected transformation of ‘Jikeleza’ from a planned Gqom song to a beloved Amapiano track.
“It’s doing so well, it’s catching waves. It’s like a throwback, it’s familiar because I’ve done… there was a ‘SUKA’ but it was ‘Jikeleza’. Apparently [Jikeleza] it was supposed to be a Gqom song and then it became a piano song that’s why it was a bonus track,” Khanyisa revealed. ‘Jikeleza’ was a bonus track on the Scorpion Kings EP.
The revelation sheds light on the organic nature of music creation and how a song can sometimes take on a life of its own. The serendipitous journey of ‘Jikeleza’ highlights the fluidity and versatility of Amapiano as a genre, accommodating diverse influences and unexpected twists. Despite ‘Jikeleza’ not originally intended to be an Amapiano track, it resonated with audiences and found a home in the hearts of Amapiano lovers.
Now, with her latest single ‘Suka,’ Khanyisa aims to recapture the magic she experienced with ‘Jikeleza.’ The song carries throwback elements and familiarity, reminiscent of her previous hit. Collaborating with talented artists such as Tyler ICU, Nandipha 808, and Ceeka RSA, Khanyisa hopes to capture the attention and admiration of her fans once again.
