Amapiano Artists Call For Support From The Government. The Amapiano genre has taken the world by storm, with its infectious beats and distinct South African sound capturing the hearts of music lovers globally. However, recent debates surrounding the genre’s origins and international recognition have sparked a call to action from SA Amapiano artists, urging the government to provide support.

Taking to social media, artists voiced their concerns, highlighting the need for governmental backing to propel Amapiano to new heights and ensure its rightful place as a South African cultural export.

The discussion surrounding the global reach of Amapiano has brought to light the challenges faced by South African artists. While the genre’s roots can be traced back to South Africa, there has been a perception that Nigeria has taken the lead in popularizing Amapiano on the international stage, overshadowing its true origins. Amapiano artists, recognizing the importance of acknowledgment and support from their own government, have turned to Twitter to call for assistance from the Arts and Culture department.

The MajorLeague twins, prominent figures within the Amapiano scene, expressed their concerns about the lack of governmental support for the genre. They emphasized the need for action and called for the authorities to provide the necessary resources to ensure that Amapiano reaches all corners of the world.

all said and done. We can fight all these guys all we want.. but what is South Africa doing for piano to make sure piano is really taken to the world? What has government done for Piano? This is our best export but what support have we give to the genre to make sure it touches…

DJ Maphorisa, a key player in the Amapiano movement, echoed the sentiment, expressing his hope that the Arts and Culture department would take notice and extend their support.

I hope arts n culture is cavin cause we need their support DANKO ❤️

The involvement of politician and former DA https://twitter.com/DjMaphorisa/status/1679158484527456263?s=20leader Mmusi Maimane in the discussion added a new dimension to the conversation. Maimane emphasized the need for the government to protect Amapiano and invest in its development. He called for the Ministry of Sports, Arts, and Culture to provide funding for Amapiano artists to travel abroad and spread the uniquely South African sound. Maimane highlighted the potential of Amapiano to drive local tourism, attracting international artists to the genre’s birthplace, much like New York and Compton became hubs for collaboration and artistic growth.

There should be an annual Amapiano conference for working artists to liaise with the ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture.

This conference should invite international music producers and investors. Let’s do the Amapiano movie and tell the story put it on Netflix.

Ideas are…
