K.O Clarifies Where His New Song With Toss Falls In Between Hip Hop And Amapiano. One of the most talked about songs right in South Africa is ‘ROCKABYE’ by rapper K.O and Amapiano sensation, Toss. The song has made waves but also been used as in the continuous debate about SA Hip Hop and Amapiano.
After posting about the song, a critic responded to the rapper saying he had just rapped on Amapiano and that didn’t qualify the song as Hip Hop. “Rapping on a piano beat doesn’t make it rap, Yano & hip hop isn’t the same family, I get it, Amapiano is really a big big thing and Hip hop heads that aren’t speaking from the heart but hype end up confusing the two, when you infuse hip hop & yano ya, that’s when you can say that,” the critic tweeted.
In response, K.O clarified how he feels the collaboration represents saying the banter is divisive between the two genre and he brought the Amapiano artists onto his sound not the other way around. “What are you on about?? Me and two Amapiano wizards made magic together (Stunna & Toss), I brought em to my sound and they excelled. I haven’t rapped on an Amapiano but proudly call that groundbreaking movement as my family. All this divisive banter you’re spewing in regressive.”
