Lady Du Reveals The International Artist That Called Her. With a career dating back to the early 2000s, singer, rapper, and DJ Lady Du found international success after refining her sound to become a leading figure in amapiano, which exploded as a worldwide phenomenon at the dawn of the 2020s. Hailing from a musical family (which includes her father, DJ Choc, and uncle, DJ Zan D), Lady Du naturally gravitated toward DJing as a child and went on to win national competitions.

While on tour in the UK, Lady Du bagged deals and studio sessions with renowned artists. She recently shared that she also got a call from Senegalese-American singer Akon, further stating that she is shocked that she has indeed gone international. “I’m still shocked that Akon called me last night. we are international man,” gushed the star.

I’m still shocked that Akon called me last night 😭😭😭😭 we are international man ❤️❤️❤️

She is filled with gratitude and can’t stop thanking the universe for working in her favour. She went to the UK for a performance and it’s paid off in more ways than one. Lady Du says the trip changed her life. It is in contrast to what she went through earlier this year when she told her followers she cursed the day she signed with her previous management.

“I have worked days and nights trying to build myself, I have never been helped financially, I do not have industry connections, I have genuinely built a career for myself that is run by people. You guys made me who I am today. It is sad that at times we have to smile but we are actually broken beings. We have to give hugs to people when we actually need them ourselves. I’d like to thank you guys for personally for being my strength, I’d like to tell you how important you all are to me. It is because of you that I could still continue and not give on myself,” she said earlier this year.
