Renowned DJ and producer Oscar Mbo has showered amapiano maestro Kabza De Small with high praise, calling him a rare and exceptional talent in the South African music industry. In a recent interview highlighted by Fakaza, Oscar spoke candidly about Kabza’s unmatched versatility and enduring impact on the scene.
“Yoh, let’s give it to Kabza guys, come on,” Oscar began. “Some think he’s the new Vinny because of the height and stuff and because Vinny loves people, Kabza loves people. I feel like Kabza is special, man… most of the time you find people who are DJs but not producers. Kabza has got that thing — talent, producer and DJ at the same time, you don’t get that a lot.”
Oscar emphasized how Kabza’s dual mastery as both a top-tier producer and electrifying DJ places him in a category of his own. He noted that Kabza’s connection with fans and his ability to consistently deliver high-quality music sets him apart from his peers.
Drawing deeper comparisons, Oscar acknowledged the parallels between Kabza De Small and legendary house music icon Black Coffee — not to suggest one is replacing the other, but to highlight Kabza’s rise in stature and work ethic.
“There are many factors to saying he’s the new Black Coffee, because we can’t have a new Black Coffee,” Oscar clarified. “I’m saying in terms of how you compare it, Kabza for me ticks a lot of boxes. He’s confident, he’s consistent. If you can go back, you’d know Coffee was dropping a lot of music… that’s how much he was pushing.”
Kabza De Small, often dubbed the “King of Amapiano,” has been a dominant force in shaping the genre’s global reach. With his string of chart-topping releases, collaborative projects, and sold-out performances, Kabza continues to solidify his legacy as one of the most influential artists in South African music.
