Kelvin Momo, one of the most influential figures in the Amapiano movement, is opening up about the deeper meaning behind the album cover of his recent project as he gears up for the highly anticipated Red Bull Symphonic performance. Known for his emotive, soulful sound often labeled “private school Amapiano,” Kelvin Momo has never shied away from weaving personal stories into his music — and this time, the visual representation of his work holds just as much meaning.
In a recent interview ahead of the Red Bull Symphonic, Kelvin Momo spoke about the thought process and inspiration behind the album cover of his latest body of work. What many fans may not have realized is that the cover art is deeply rooted in both personal reflection and artistic evolution.
“So basically the whole project was supposed to be a deluxe, neh,” he began. “You see, like everything that happened, I got an inspiration from my Dad, dawg.”
Kelvin went on to explain how his father played a crucial role in helping him reflect on his musical journey. “That man made me realise how much impact private school Amapiano had on my career, because of the sound,” he said. “He was like, ‘I hear everything that you’re doing now, but I want you to go back to where you come from — your sound.’”
This message from his father sparked a creative shift for Momo, prompting him to go back to his roots and build from the core of his identity as an artist. The hand featured on the cover, according to Kelvin, symbolizes continuity and connection. “With the hand, it’s more like… it was supposed to be a continuation of ‘Ntsako’,” he added, referencing a previous project that also delved into deeply personal themes.
As Kelvin Momo prepares to grace the stage at Red Bull Symphonic, fans can expect a powerful and emotional performance — one that not only celebrates his musical growth but also honors his family and foundational sound.
By blending powerful visuals with heartfelt storytelling, Kelvin Momo once again proves that his artistry goes far beyond the beat — it’s a spiritual journey.
