South African music powerhouses Uncle Waffles and Tyla are soaring to new heights after being officially nominated at the 2025 BET Awards, set to take place on 9 June 2025. The two stars have captured international attention with their unique styles and global impact, and their recognition by BET is another significant milestone in their fast-rising careers.

Uncle Waffles, known for her electric DJ sets and genre-pushing performances, earned a nomination for Best New International Act. BET confirmed the news in an official post on social media, writing:

“Culture’s biggest night is rolling out the red carpet for our Best International Acts for 2025. BET Awards announces its Best International Acts to @unclewaffles_.”

The Swaziland-born, South Africa-based DJ has had an explosive career trajectory since she burst onto the scene with her viral Amapiano mixes and magnetic stage presence. Her nomination is a proud moment for the Amapiano movement as it continues to penetrate international charts and audiences.

Meanwhile, global pop and R&B sensation Tyla has also received a nomination under the Best International Act category. With her hit single “Water” and her debut album continuing to top charts globally, Tyla has become one of the most recognizable African artists on the international stage. BET also acknowledged her with the same celebratory message:

“Culture’s biggest night is rolling out the red carpet for our Best International Acts for 2025. BET Awards announces its Best International Acts to @Tyla; #BETAwards Live Monday 9 June.”

Joining Uncle Waffles and Tyla among the international nominees are other South African artists including Maglera Doe Boy, TxC, Dlala Thukzin, and legends like the late AKA and K.O. The category also features stars from across the globe such as Ayra Starr and Rema (Nigeria), Black Sherif (Ghana), and Ezra Collective (UK), showcasing the growing influence of African music worldwide.

This is a proud moment for South African music, as it continues to take centre stage in global entertainment. Fans are encouraged to tune in on Monday, 9 June, and show support for these local legends flying the Mzansi flag high.
