South African Amapiano maestro Vigro Deep (real name Kamogelo Phetla) made waves in Brooklyn, New York this past weekend with a sold-out show that marked his official New York debut. The event, titled Descendants: Afrohouse & Amapiano Experience, took place at the iconic SILO venue and was packed to capacity as fans flocked to witness one of Mzansi’s brightest stars take over the decks.

Sharing the stage with DJs Meedy, Ethan Tomas, Vonnie Mack, and Pizzi, Vigro Deep was the headline act — and he did not disappoint. The 23-year-old hitmaker from Atteridgeville, Pretoria, delivered a spiritually charged set that had the crowd vibing deep into the night.

Vigro Deep is no stranger to music royalty, being the son of DJ Spring (Victor Ngcongwana), a founding member of South Africa’s legendary Godfathers of Deep House Collective. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, he credited his father as a major influence on his journey:

“My dad’s influence played a big part… that really already set the ball in how my work ethic should be.”

Known for his deep, emotional productions and intricate beats, Vigro described his sets as deeply intuitive:

“I’m locked in. It’s almost spiritual… I’m reading the energy of the crowd but also letting the music speak through me.”

Brooklyn, he said, was one of his favourite stops on his current US tour.

“Brooklyn is the home of rap… and it’s crazy to think that someone who comes from a completely different world is able to share music in such a musically iconic place.”

Vigro Deep has collaborated with some of the biggest names in African music, including Focalistic, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Reekado Banks, and Mr JazziQ. Looking ahead, he hopes to expand his global footprint with dream collaborations featuring Travis Scott, Rema, Asake, Kaytranada, and even Kendrick Lamar.

“It’s really about the music, and just taking the sound beyond what it can be,” he said.

With his sold-out Brooklyn show and rising international acclaim, Vigro Deep is clearly pushing the Amapiano wave to new heights — and fans can expect new music soon.
