South African pop-amapiano sensation Tyla continues her meteoric rise on the global stage, bagging two prestigious nominations at the upcoming 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). The Water hitmaker is flying the Mzansi flag high and cementing her place among music’s elite.

Set to take place on 26 May 2025 and hosted by superstar Jennifer Lopez, this year’s AMAs promise a night filled with glitz, glamour, and game-changing recognition—and Tyla is firmly in the spotlight. She has been nominated in two prominent categories: Favourite Female R&B Artist and Favourite Afrobeats Artist.

In the R&B category, Tyla finds herself up against some of the industry’s finest, including Kehlani, Muni Long, Summer Walker, and SZA. Her presence in such a competitive lineup is a testament to her rapid growth and the universal appeal of her smooth blend of Afro-pop and R&B. Meanwhile, in the Afrobeats category, she shares the spotlight with African music heavyweights Asake, Rema, Tems, and Wizkid.

These nominations mark yet another milestone in what has been a breakout era for Tyla. Over the past year, she has scooped several major international awards, including a Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, two BET Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, and an iHeartRadio Music Award.

After cancelling her Coachella performance in 2024 due to injury, Tyla made her much-anticipated debut at the iconic California-based music festival this year. Her energetic performance during Coachella Weekend 1 had fans buzzing, and her second weekend performance featured a fan interaction that went viral—further showcasing her magnetic stage presence and growing international fanbase.

As the countdown to the American Music Awards begins, fans are rallying behind Tyla with excitement and pride. Whether she takes home the awards or not, there’s no denying that Tyla is already a winner—her name, voice, and vibe are resonating across continents.
