Pcee Opens Up About Gatekeeping and Corruption in SA Entertainment Industry

Amapiano sensation Pcee is stepping into his power—and he’s not holding back. The rising star recently took to Instagram Live to speak candidly about the challenges he’s been facing in the South African music industry, calling out what he describes as gatekeeping and corruption that has left him sidelined despite his contributions to chart-topping hits.

Pcee, who has been featured on numerous Amapiano bangers alongside some of the biggest names in the game, revealed that he hasn’t received a single cent from some of the biggest songs he’s worked on. His frustration was clear as he vented to his followers during the live session.

“These songs are very big but I’ve never gotten a cent from them, I’ve never even gotten R1 from those songs,” he said. “Instead, the money goes to that one person, that big artist in South Africa, and the rest of us get nothing. Why does it always have to be them who get all the recognition? Why can’t I make my own money?”

Pcee’s story is not a new one. The industry has long been accused of favouring established artists while up-and-comers are left to fend for themselves with little recognition or reward. His comments shine a light on a growing issue—one that affects many young creatives who are looking to build sustainable careers in music.

Despite these challenges, Pcee continues to deliver hit after hit, proving his undeniable talent and dedication to his craft. But as he makes waves musically, he’s also making it clear that he won’t stay silent about the inequalities behind the scenes.

With his voice now added to a growing chorus of artists calling for change, Pcee’s courage may just be the push needed to start addressing the structural issues plaguing the industry. And while he may feel overlooked by some, one thing is certain—his message is being heard loud and clear.
