Amapiano sensation Kelvin Momo has come under intense criticism after failing to honour a scheduled performance in Zambia, where he was booked to headline the popular Piano Palooza event. The award-winning producer and DJ, known for his soulful take on the Amapiano genre, left fans in Zambia disappointed when he didn’t show up, prompting an apology and explanation from his team.
In a formal statement released on his social media platforms, Kelvin Momo cited logistical challenges as the main reason for missing the performance. He revealed that he had a prior engagement in Limpopo, South Africa, on the same day, and due to timing constraints, it was impossible for him to catch his flight to Zambia in time.
“We regret to inform fans and stakeholders that Kelvin Momo was unable to attend the scheduled performance in Zambia due to unforeseen logistics. On the day of the event, Kelvin Momo was in Limpopo, South Africa. Despite all efforts, there wasn’t sufficient time for him to catch his flight to Zambia. This unfortunate timing made it impossible for him to make it to the event as planned,” the statement read.
While Kelvin Momo extended his apologies to Zambian fans and assured them that they are working on a resolution, the response from fans was mixed. Many expressed disappointment, with some taking to social media to question the planning behind the trip and the importance given to international fans.
One X user wrote,
“This is how our artists destroy their brands. Your fans LITERALLY come first, you are because of them.”
Another commented,
“The hell I would raise…”
Some fans in South Africa also voiced concern, saying they would be deeply disappointed if something similar were to happen at a local show. The incident has sparked conversations around artist commitment and accountability, especially for international gigs where fans spend considerably to attend.
While Kelvin Momo remains one of the most sought-after names in Amapiano, fans should now wait to see how he and his team plan to make it up to his Zambian supporters.
