Amapiano heavyweight DJ Maphorisa is in hot water once again after failing to show up for a scheduled performance at Phola Sundays, held at Scotch and Sofa in Daveyton. The event organiser, Zwelakhe Masango, has come forward expressing his frustration and demanding a refund from the artist, claiming that the no-show has severely damaged his brand and reputation.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Masango revealed that all necessary agreements were in place and that DJ Maphorisa had received payment for the performance. The event was publicly confirmed by Maphorisa himself through his official gig guide, which featured Phola Sundays prominently on the flyer.
“DJ Maphorisa dented my brand with his antics. Now people will never trust me with the events I hope to host. All the talks were successful before the event,” said an emotionally distressed Masango.
Masango also revealed that attempts were made to accommodate the star by adjusting time slots to fit his schedule. Despite this, Phori allegedly failed to communicate effectively with the organisers, resulting in a complete no-show on the night of the event.
“What he did on Sunday, I might not recover from it. He has killed my brand. We have engaged with his team for clarity,” Masango added. Although Maphorisa’s team reportedly agreed to release a formal statement, the organiser believes it’s already too late to repair the damage. “The damage has been done. We want our refund.”
This isn’t the first time DJ Maphorisa has missed a gig in the area. According to Masango, the hitmaker also failed to appear at an event in March, sparking concerns among local promoters who now fear that Phori may be intentionally avoiding performances in Daveyton.
Following the incident, the event organisers took to social media to thank the other performers who honored their commitments. They noted the disappointment surrounding DJ Maphorisa’s absence and expressed gratitude to the crowd for their understanding and continued support.
As fans and industry insiders await an official response from DJ Maphorisa, questions continue to swirl about accountability and professionalism in the live music scene—especially when high-profile artists are involved.
