The festive season has brought not only joy but also heightened criminal activity, with scammers preying on unsuspecting victims. Unfortunately, beloved South African singer and performer, Nkosazana Daughter, has become the latest target of an online booking scam.
The “Mfazi Wephepha” hitmaker revealed that a fraudster using the name Mpho Mapeta has been impersonating her manager and booking agent. This individual has been accepting payments from event organizers under false pretenses, tarnishing the singer’s reputation and causing distress among her fans and collaborators, “soliciting payments by sending invoice to promoters. Please avoid making payments of invoices,” she said.
In an official statement, Nkosazana Daughter expressed regret over the situation and warned promoters to remain vigilant. The statement disclosed that one of her booking numbers, 071 488 9381, was hacked and exploited by the perpetrator. This person sent out fraudulent invoices linked to a personal bank account in the name of Mpho Mapeta, instead of the official company account for Nkosazana Daughter Productions.
To address the scam, her team released detailed information to help identify the fraudulent account:
- Account Holder: Mpho Mapeta
- Account Number: 1226635032
- Bank: Nedbank
Promoters and fans are strongly urged to disregard any communications or invoices linked to these details and to use official channels for all bookings. To ensure a smooth and secure process, Nkosazana Daughter provided updated and verified contact details:
- Email: [email protected]
- Contact Number (Calls and WhatsApp): +27 82 691 2166
The singer also apologized to those affected by the scam, emphasizing her commitment to transparency and safeguarding her brand. “We strongly urge promoters to use the correct channels and make payments only to the official company’s account to ensure a smooth securing of talent and to avoid similar incidents in the future. We thank you for your understanding and patience and we apologise to everyone who was scammed through this channel,’ she concluded.
As the holiday season continues, artists, promoters, and fans alike are urged to stay alert and verify all transactions through legitimate and official channels.
