Amapiano sensation MaWhoo is celebrating a monumental moment in her music career. The talented singer-songwriter, born Thandeka Ngema, has achieved over one million monthly listeners on Spotify, marking a significant milestone for the 30-year-old artist.
In addition to her streaming success, MaWhoo has secured a spot among South Africa’s top five most-listened-to female artists. This recognition solidifies her position as one of the leading voices in the thriving Amapiano scene.
Speaking to Daily Sun, the Ngilimele hitmaker reflected on her journey with immense pride and gratitude. “I’m very excited and so grateful. As an individual artist, it’s not easy to make it in this industry, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come,” MaWhoo said.
Reaching over a million monthly listeners is a dream come true for MaWhoo, who reminisced about her early days as an artist. “When I started, I used to be happy with 5,000, 50,000, or 200,000 listeners. Now, hitting one million is truly a dream come true. It’s proof that things are going well, and I’m on the right path in this industry,” she shared.
MaWhoo credits her listeners for inspiring her to keep striving for excellence. “When someone’s work is acknowledged, it’s a sign to keep pushing harder. Being in the top five most listened-to female artists means people love and appreciate what I do. That encouragement gives me energy to keep going and do even more,” she said.
As December rolls in, MaWhoo’s schedule is packed with performances, making it one of her busiest seasons yet. She revealed that she will be on the road throughout the holidays and won’t have time to rest until January. “I’m fully booked for the festive season and won’t be able to go home until January. This is the busiest time for artists, and we only get to rest and see our families in the new year,” she said.
