South African rapper and Amapiano artist Sizwe Alakine, formerly known as Reason, has achieved a significant milestone in his music career. After two decades in the industry, he celebrated his first-ever win at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) for his collaboration on the track “Imithandazo” with Mthunzi and Amapiano powerhouse Kabza De Small. The track, which appears on Mthunzi and Kabza’s joint album Isimo, brought Sizwe Alakine the recognition he had long been awaiting.

Sizwe Alakine took to his Twitter (X) page to share the exciting news with fans, reflecting on the journey that led him to this award. “My first ever SAMA award after 20 years in the game. Crazy! Let me be the living testimony of what happens when you don’t let them talk down on you for doing what they can’t do,” he wrote. He added a motivational message, saying, “Stay low, keep firing, and it won’t be too long if you endure.”

This win is especially meaningful, as it marks his transition from hip-hop to Amapiano, a genre he embraced fully under his new moniker, Sizwe Alakine. His versatility has allowed him to adapt to the changing landscape of South African music, and “Imithandazo” demonstrates his ability to blend his lyrical prowess with Amapiano’s soulful and infectious beats. Sizwe’s collaboration with Kabza De Small, often dubbed the “King of Amapiano,” and vocalist Mthunzi proved to be a winning formula that showcases the best of the genre.

Fans and industry peers have shown immense support, praising Sizwe Alakine for his persistence and adaptability. This first SAMA win is a long-deserved acknowledgment of his contributions to South African music and the strength of his creative journey. His transition to Amapiano and collaborations with top artists have reinvigorated his career and broadened his fanbase. For Sizwe Alakine, this SAMA win serves as validation for his 20-year dedication to the industry.
