Northern Cape promoter Tebogo Setumisho has publicly voiced his frustration with Amapiano artist and DJ Nobantu Vilakazi, accusing her of failing to attend a scheduled performance in Pampierstad, Northern Cape, on September 28, 2024, and subsequently refusing to provide a refund. The event, organized by Sous Family Entertainment, was set to feature Vilakazi as one of the main attractions, but the artist’s no-show left both the promoters and the audience disappointed.
According to Setumisho, Vilakazi was paid R19,000 for the event, comprising R15,000 for her performance and an additional R4,000 to cover transport expenses. However, on the day of the event, Vilakazi reportedly informed the organizers that she was experiencing car trouble on her way to the venue. Setumisho explained that, when asked for proof of this delay, Vilakazi failed to provide any evidence, prompting skepticism about her excuse.
“She was supposed to perform at an event in Pampierstad. When she informed us of her car problems, we requested evidence, but she didn’t respond. It was disappointing, especially after we had promoted her appearance heavily,” Setumisho told Briefly News.
In light of Vilakazi’s absence, Setumisho stated that the team quickly set up a refund agreement with her, anticipating that she would reimburse the payment in good faith. However, he claims that Vilakazi has since avoided refunding the fee, offering excuses whenever they attempt to follow up. “We paid her R15,000 for the performance and R4,000 for transport, but after her no-show, we expected her to honor the refund agreement. She continues to make excuses instead,” Setumisho added.
Setumisho provided Briefly News with documentation, including the original proof of payment and the formal refund agreement. Despite repeated attempts to settle the matter amicably, the promoter now feels forced to go public in hopes that Vilakazi will address the situation and fulfill her refund commitment.
