Oscar Mbo’s Limpopo Show Cancelled Over Threats

DJ Oscar Mbo’s scheduled performance at the Yebo God Summer event on November 2 at Noko Resort in Limpopo has been officially cancelled due to safety concerns. The event was set to feature prominent South African artists, including Mörda, QScotch, Miggs, Dibbz, Mathata, Flavor, Bhuts Tunz, Kulani, Daxx, Ephy DJ, and Red. However, just days before the show, organizers announced its cancellation, citing threats directed toward Oscar Mbo as the primary reason.

Oscar Mbo has recently found himself at the center of controversy following two incidents with Limpopo artists Makhadzi and Kharishma. In the first incident, Oscar Mbo allegedly asked Kharishma to leave the stage during an event. Although he later apologized, the incident fueled tension between him and the Limpopo music scene. Shortly after, he was involved in a disagreement with Makhadzi over performance timing at another concert. Oscar Mbo reportedly removed Makhadzi’s memory stick from the sound system while she was on stage. Although both artists eventually reconciled and publicly shook hands, the incidents left some fans discontented and unwilling to forgive, sparking backlash against the DJ.

These events culminated in what the Yebo God Summer event organizers have described as “threats” against Oscar Mbo, prompting them to prioritize safety. In a statement, Noko Resort shared, “Noko Resort Postpones Event Scheduled for Saturday, 2 November 2024, Prioritizing the Safety of Patrons and Performers. In light of recent events, we at Noko Resort have made the difficult decision to postpone our highly anticipated event… Our top priority is the safety and well-being of everyone involved—our loyal patrons, talented performers, partners, and dedicated staff.”

The organizers also considered finding a replacement for Oscar Mbo to keep the event on schedule, but the lack of time made it unfeasible. Fans who had been looking forward to the show expressed disappointment over the cancellation, although many understood the necessity of ensuring a safe environment.
