South African musician Masterpiece YVK, real name Thabang Kganakga, is ready to set the tone for the festive season with his upcoming EP, Ke Dezemba. The highly anticipated project, slated for release on 29 November, promises to capture the spirit of December celebrations through music.
In an interview with Daily Sun, the Manzi Nte hitmaker shared insights into the creative process behind the EP. According to the 29-year-old artist, the project reflects his journey throughout the year and is his way of answering the question on everyone’s mind: What’s the vibe this summer?
“This project is me putting together everything I’ve been doing during the year,” Masterpiece said. “People want to know what we’re doing this summer, and I chose to respond via music because that’s the best way I know how to. I’m bringing the December vibes—the true essence of December.”
Masterpiece explained that Ke Dezemba aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of childhood anticipation for the festive season. “I thought it would be nice to give the nostalgic feeling of back in the day when you had Christmas clothes ready in November and couldn’t wait to wear them,” he added.
The artist, known for his many chart-topping collaborations, also spoke about his approach to creating music, emphasizing that he avoids succumbing to pressure when working on new projects.
“The one thing that will bring you to your downfall is putting a lot of pressure,” he explained. “There’s no specific method to making hits. What I do is try and tell stories through my music, and each project is different that way. But I won’t put pressure on the project because I want it to do well. Music is different. Every story needs to be different.”
Masterpiece YVK has built a reputation for his ability to connect with fans through relatable lyrics and catchy beats, and Ke Dezemba is no exception. With themes centered around joy, celebration, and cultural nostalgia, the EP is set to be a soundtrack for December festivities.
