On one such occasion, her flight was delayed, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While waiting, she reconnected with a friend she had previously met during a flight. As they caught up, the friend’s driver struck up a conversation with Sha Sha, asking about her plans in South Africa.
“I told him I was a musician,” Sha Sha recounted. The driver then mentioned that he sometimes worked for DJ Maphorisa, driving him around. Sha Sha saw this as an opportunity to get her foot in the door, hoping to meet the renowned producer who had already made a name for himself in the music industry.
A few days later, on a Saturday, the driver came through on his promise and invited her to meet DJ Maphorisa. Sha Sha brought some of her music along, eager to impress the producer. She played one of her tracks for him, and the connection was instant. “He listened and right then and there, he said, ‘Let’s start working now,’” Sha Sha shared. It was a pivotal moment that kickstarted her career, as she began working closely with DJ Maphorisa, who helped introduce her to the broader South African music industry.
