South African DJ and music producer Oscar Mbo has publicly apologized to up-and-coming artist Kharishma after a stage incident at the Blouberg Festival this past weekend. The controversy arose when Kharishma, a young vocalist, was reportedly removed from the stage by Oscar Mbo’s team while she was performing, in order to accommodate his set.
Kharishma, upset by the incident, took to Facebook to express her frustration, writing, “I don’t like what you have done to me at Blouberg Festival and I will not keep quiet.” Her emotional post gained traction, drawing attention to the way she was treated at the event.
In response to the backlash, Oscar Mbo issued a public apology, explaining the situation from his perspective. He clarified that the confusion stemmed from a miscommunication between the event promoter and his team, which led to the scheduling conflict. He assured Kharishma and the public that he did not personally condone the way the situation was handled.
“Apologies to you, my sister. The communication we had with the promoter of the event and the change of times was clearly not communicated. We were booked for three events, all done by one promoter, and the times were changed for one show, affecting all three,” Oscar Mbo wrote in his apology.
He emphasized that he was unaware of the stage conflict until after it had happened, stating, “What happened on stage is something I didn’t condone, and I personally called my team out. I would never do such. I parked when you started and stayed in the car. I was personally called by my team when the stage manager said it’s my time to get onto the stage.”
Oscar Mbo continued by expressing his regret over the incident and reiterated that he holds great respect for fellow artists. “Apologies for how the whole thing was handled. I would never undermine any artist; we are all colleagues at the end of the day, regardless of anything. Apologies,” he concluded.
