DJ Maphorisa has responded to allegations made by Samthing Soweto regarding the ownership of his music masters, sparking a heated exchange between the two artists. In a series of tweets earlier this week, Samthing Soweto accused Maphorisa of exploiting him, particularly concerning the song “Isphithiphithi,” and claimed he was not given the rights to the masters.
Samthing Soweto expressed his frustration, writing, “@DjMaphorisa shouldn’t lie the way he does, it’s gonna get him into trouble one day. I paid Phori for my masters. I paid the amount that he asked for at the time. Furthermore, I lied about Phori’s contributions to my project. He didn’t produce anything.”
In his lengthy Twitter thread, Samthing also accused Maphorisa and his team of using his works without proper permissions or contracts. He claimed that they released his music without notifying him of the release dates, and when he inquired about it, they discredited him on social media before he could present his side of the story.
DJ Maphorisa quickly fired back, addressing the claims through a video post. In the video, Phori clarified that Samthing Soweto could not own all the masters as he had previously claimed. Maphorisa also revealed that Samthing’s invoice had been requested years ago so that he could be paid, implying that the matter had been dragging on for some time.
“We also wanna own ‘Amantombazane’ master, send us the invoice so we can pay you, simple @samthingsoweto,” DJ Maphorisa captioned his post, referring to another collaboration.
Maphorisa expressed his frustration over the ongoing back-and-forth between him and Samthing Soweto, stating that he was tired of the public dispute and wanted to resolve the issue once and for all. He emphasized that Samthing’s payment could be returned if necessary but suggested that the singer had been delaying the process.
The exchange between the two artists has caused a stir on social media, with fans weighing in on the controversy. As both sides continue to share their perspectives, it remains to be seen how the conflict will be resolved or whether the two stars will find common ground over the issue of master ownership.
