DJ Maphorisa, known for being outspoken, has once again stepped up to address the controversy surrounding the recent release of Mas Musiq’s single “Amalanga Awafani,” which features DJ Maphorisa, Lawd Weezy, and TO Starquality. The issue at hand is the absence of credit for Samthing Soweto, despite his vocals being featured on the track. The situation has sparked a heated debate online, with many pointing fingers at DJ Maphorisa, accusing him of exploiting Samthing Soweto.

Taking to Instagram Live, DJ Maphorisa decided to set the record straight. He expressed his frustration over being blamed for the lack of credit, emphasizing that there is more to the story than what is being portrayed. “I know I’m a controversial person, but now let’s talk,” he began. “This guy [Samthing Soweto] was coming to my house every day, recording the ‘Sphithiphithi’ album. We did the whole album with Kabza De Small, and Mas Musiq was the one doing the engineering.”

DJ Maphorisa went on to praise Samthing Soweto’s dedication and perfectionism when it comes to his craft. “Samthing Soweto is a perfectionist. When it comes to vocals, he can record 100 takes just to make sure it’s perfect. I respect his craft; when it comes to that, he’s the guy. But attitude will never take you anywhere. Attitude can mess up your business and relationships.”

The DJ then delved into the issue of ownership and credit, which seems to be at the core of the controversy. “We have to share, we have a problem of sharing. He wants to take everything, he wants to own the masters of ‘Sphithiphithi’ that he recorded at my place. He can’t take everything.”

DJ Maphorisa’s remarks suggest that the situation is not as clear-cut as it appears, and that there are underlying issues of control and ownership that are complicating matters. He expressed his anger towards Samthing Soweto, accusing him of wanting to claim credit and ownership for work that was a collaborative effort.

The controversy shows the challenges and complexities of the music industry, particularly in the realm of ownership, credit, and collaboration. As the story continues to unfold, fans and industry insiders alike are left to ponder the delicate balance between artistic integrity and business realities.
