South African Amapiano DJ and producer, DJ Kmat, is stepping into new territory as she bags her first acting role. The MKK hitmaker, whose real name is Koketso Mathabathe, will make her acting debut in the upcoming educational series Chipi on SABC 1. This exciting news marks a new chapter in her career as she moves from the DJ booth to the television screen.

DJ Kmat has been making waves in the Amapiano music scene, but this new role shows her versatility and determination to expand her horizons. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, DJ Kmat expressed her excitement about landing the acting gig, revealing that it has been a long-time dream of hers to be on television. “Even during my university days, I wanted to be on TV,” she shared. “I was good at public speaking and always envisioned myself as a presenter.”

Despite having no formal acting training, Kmat’s natural talent shone through. She was first called to be an extra, but her performance exceeded expectations, and she landed a role in Chipi. Reflecting on her first experience in front of the camera, DJ Kmat said, “It was scary at first, but once I got into it, it felt so natural. I managed to do it in one take, which was pretty cool.”

Kmat is excited for her fans to see her in this new light and hopes the experience will open more doors for future acting opportunities. “I’m really grateful for this opportunity, and I hope it leads to more acting roles in the future,” she added.

The series Chipi is set to make a significant impact by focusing on issues that affect South Africa’s youth, particularly young women. The show aims to provide practical support, instill hope, and foster resilience in young people, many of whom face challenges like unemployment, limited access to education, and socioeconomic inequalities. DJ Kmat is proud to be part of such a meaningful project, especially one that resonates with her passion for empowering women and the youth.

With her acting debut on Chipi, DJ Kmat is proving that she is more than just a musical talent. Fans are eagerly awaiting her first appearance on screen and looking forward to seeing where this new path in acting will take her.
