Spotify has unveiled its first-ever Global Impact List in South Africa, highlighting the top 25 songs from the country that have made the most significant impact worldwide on the streaming platform during the first half of 2024. This prestigious list acknowledges South African tracks released between January 1 and June 30, 2024, which have garnered the most listens from outside the country.

Leading the list is South African superstar Tyla with her chart-topping hit ‘Jump,’ featuring Gunna and Skillibeng. Tyla dominates the list, taking up eight spots with various tracks, demonstrating her global appeal and immense popularity.

The influential Amapiano duo Major League DJz also made a remarkable impression, securing three slots on the list. Known for their energetic beats and captivating performances, Major League DJz continue to push the boundaries of Amapiano music, bringing it to an international audience. Tyler ICU, another prominent figure in the Amapiano scene, claimed two slots, further showcasing the genre’s rising influence on the global stage.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed her pride in the achievements of South African artists. “South African artists have always had a unique voice and an incredible ability to connect with audiences around the world. The global success of these artists is a testament to the rich musical heritage and the innovative spirit of South African music. At Spotify, we are proud to celebrate their achievements and support their journeys to even greater heights,” she said.

The dominance of Amapiano artists on the Global Impact List underscores the genre’s powerful impact and growing popularity worldwide. Known for its vibrant rhythms, soulful melodies, and infectious energy, Amapiano continues to captivate listeners far beyond the borders of South Africa.

The list includes a mix of established artists and emerging talents, each contributing to the rich tapestry of South African music. The international success of these tracks highlights the diverse musical talent emerging from South Africa and its growing influence on the global music scene.

As the Amapiano wave continues to surge, artists like Major League DJz, Tyler ICU, and Felo Le Tee are at the forefront, leading a cultural movement that is reshaping the music industry. Their inclusion on Spotify’s Global Impact List is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and the universal appeal of their music.

The recognition from Spotify not only celebrates the achievements of these artists but also sets the stage for even greater accomplishments in the future. With their innovative sounds and captivating performances, South African musicians are poised to continue their ascent on the global stage, bringing the unique rhythms and melodies of their homeland to audiences around the world.
